A heartwarming bond has formed between an unlikely pair – a disabled calf and a failed cattle dog.
The internet has been captivated by the touching tale of Cupcake and Bo. Cupcake, the calf, was born with front legs that remained crooked as she grew, making it challenging for her to move around.
Despite her condition, this “downed calf” is steadily improving, thanks to the dedicated love and care provided by her owner, Genia Kay Meyer.
Genia Kay Meyer graciously took over the responsibility of caring for the ailing calf from her cousin, who was finding it difficult to meet the baby cow’s special needs and attention.
Fortunately, Meyer has a furry assistant in Bo, her adorable and affectionate dog.
Initially brought to Meyer’s farm with the intention of being a cattle dog, Bo’s owners soon realized that he was not well-suited for the job, especially the regular truck rides that often made him sick.
Unsure of what to do with Bo, destiny intervened, and the kind-hearted canine found a new role as a companion to Cupcake, the calf. Bo stays close by Cupcake’s side while Meyer feeds her bottles of milk.
“On the very first day we brought Cupcake home and started feeding her from a bottle, Bo immediately took a liking to her. He started licking up all the milk off her face and refused to leave her,” Meyer shared with KFOR.
Over the months, a unique and endearing bond has blossomed between Cupcake and Bo, based on their mutual curiosity and affection. This heartwarming friendship caught the attention of people online, leading to the creation of a Facebook group that now boasts nearly 2,000 devoted followers.
Meyer marveled at their connection, expressing uncertainty whether it was curiosity or some other inexplicable force that drew Bo to Cupcake. Nevertheless, he remained faithfully by her side, and their bond grew stronger each day, characterized by love and tenderness. The inseparable duo spends the majority of their time playing and cuddling, showcasing the depth of their affection for one another.
The future holds the promise of even happier days for Cupcake and Bo. With their recent rise to social media stardom, Meyer took the initiative to create a GoFundMe page to gather funds for the much-needed surgery to correct Cupcake’s front leg issues.
Initially aiming for $1,000, the response from well-wishers and animal lovers has been overwhelming, and the fund has already surpassed expectations, accumulating $2,265 in just a few days.
Thanks to the generosity of supporters, Cupcake has a scheduled appointment at the OSU Veterinary Hospital, marking a significant step towards potentially enabling her to walk freely for the first time in her young life.
The heartwarming story of Cupcake and Bo has touched the hearts of many, and their newfound online fame has become a catalyst for transforming Cupcake’s life, giving her hope for a brighter, more mobile future.
